Bugfixes in 2.2.1 – update for OR in the works
We are working on an updated OR to fix the following issues (so that most bugs can be fixed directly via OR or Update)
BUGFIXES
1. Correct our mistake with the Wireless Tether app (we will take it out), then simply download from market as app needs to be installed.
2. Include some reworked script based on Ed Castros input, but we will allow you to enter your own ID as an option via the OR
3. Reworked OR scripts to fix some OR issues you seem to encounter ( update all recoveries to 1.44, only old nandroid stays on 1.14)
4. Facebook workaround when it is finally resolved (see below)
Enhancements
The new OR will also bring some enhancements thats to skrilax_CZ and our scripters are working on at the moment and we are in alpha-testing
- Toggle USB in OR so that you can access your SDCARD from you computer in the OR via USB cable (card shows up as USB storage)
- Metamorph from OR, still experimental, but may be useful for themers
Work in progress
The facebook app not synching remains problematic at the moment. It appears the install V1.2 and then 1.32 workaround still does not work as expected. One of the reasons why this does not work as it should is that the app itself (facebook.apk) is not at all included in the ROM and therefore is not properly installed and supported when flashing the ROM. We will keep working on this issue.
PS: Thanks for working with us to fix some of the remaining issues. Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated as we can only cover so much with the resources at hand.

We thought about it but jointly agreed we will not open a forum. We all are spending way too much time on this already and we all have our real-lives do deal with. Besides, there are a couple of good forums out there that we get input from already and where G.O.T releases are discussed. What the world doesnt need is yet another forum besides the ones existing.

I was having touchscreen freakouts with the initial 2.2.1. Switched to another ROM and the problem is gone.
Basically the phone would either act like
a) i was pressing center right side of the screen constantly when i wasn’t even touching it
B) nothing. Unresponsive to my touch. Screen and capacitive buttons.
Any idea why this was happening?

I had the same problem, with the phone closed it wouldn’t work/remain pressing the same spot. Sliding it out made the touchscreen work, sliding it in kill it again. (reboot fixed it).

I’ve had this quite a few times and can mostly recover it now without rebooting, i think its a focus issue – i.e. that in this state its not the screenlock app that gets the screen input but something else.
mostly i’ve found that if you hold the power button down so the power off menu appears, occasionally the lock screen will then get the touchscreen focus and i can put in my gesture (whilst the power off menu is visible) and once entered i can then cancel the power off and the phone returns to normal.
would be interested to hear if anyone else can recover theirs once in this state.
I’ve also had the constant keypresses, and actually the same method eventually woke the phone.

same here, the touch screen with no any response sometimes, I did miss some calls since I can’t pick it up with no other button, but I can wait for around half minute and it would works again, feel like the LauncherPro cause this problem, since I always feel that the LauncherPro slow down the system with reflashing the ghaphic/icons.

Same, here also missed some calls because of this, i keep playing ti the power button and sliding the keyboard to get this working. Any reasons or solutions would be appreciated

I get B) sometimes. Usually after an alert, I turn the screen on and find that I cant slide the unlock bar. Sometimes if I spam the hardware keyboard it starts responding but usually I just wait for some time.

Unfortunately, even the conservative governor didn’t help battery life much. There’s something else that’s eating the battery, and with battery usage only showing system items (no apps whatsoever is listed there), I don’t have any ideas…

Will you guys be addressing any battery life issues. The battery life seems to be much worse and doesnt last as long. For example my phone was in standby last night from 10pm – 5am with 50 % battery and at 5am the phone was completely dead, this is not normal.

Hey!
+ 1 on that battery life issue.
I did some logcat and switched the display off: Logcat went crazy during sleep. It seems like there are some tasks running during sleep keeping the device alive. Also, there are some weird entries (“No Keyboard Setting saved” – whatever that means).
Don’t know for sure on these topics, perhaps I will re-kill the system and build up everything from scratch (right now I used Titanium backup – so there might be some problems due to Titanium backup included).

I get poor battery life too
in idle usage+airplane mode I lost 30% battery during 7 h. I have noticed that android system info app show this same time in uptime and uptime(without sleep). It means that phone doesn’t sleep at all

Many people reported that those problems arise in conjunction with:
- Using Titanium Backup or similar (you SHOULD (!!) install all apps manually including setup – due to the major change from 2.1 o 2.2)
- Facebook widget and SetCPU widget drains battery a LOT in 2.2.1 – discard them
I will try both on the weekend and report back.

Agree. That is the worst thing in this ROM. Battery is drained 30-40% quicker than it’s in ROMS based on 2.1. That is annoying me.

How do I insert a proper android_id? I saved the numbers from my 2.1 ROM and edited the settings.db with a SQLite editor. Overwrite original one with the changed one and the phone stuck on a loop of rebooting itself!

I have to report that Ed_Castro’s update script is not working.
I checked on a recently flashed phone and after the update, the android_id is still missing. I’ve applied the update twice and rebooted few times. I have to insert the entry manually.
I also want to know what conditions need my APN to support Tethering. I tried the native tethering app (3G Mobile Hotspot) and it says that I need to contact my carrier.

I also like to report that the “procedure” to get the facebook sync is now useless. I’ve found that the version 1.31 works just fine and is aesthetically identical to 1.32.
There’s no need to have the latest version.
Even with the 1.2 procedure, if you delete the sync account you won’t have it back until you do the procedure again. With the 1.31 there’s no need to do that because you can add the account anytime.

once thing, lets dont call it a complain but more a question/request.
ur currently OR rly has a lot of features,
is there a way to make it a little more clearly arranged,
or to split it into two recoverys, one for the old version, and one for the new 2.2 firmware?
i ask this because i see lots of options twice, making me wonder which one is the right one
also there are lots of things getting backed up twice, even this should be more called a feature imo =)

we have split the features for 2.1 and 2.2.1, also for CM6 to own menus (each a own recoveries) that can be launch…
some features are twice there, cause they work for all firmware versions, all thats in the start menu under “stock got features” a work for all firmware versions…
the backup system will be change in new update, so that there is only 1 backup, only special features will make a own backup…
but we keep on working

Battery life is horrible. The battery went from 80% to 50% from a 10 minute phone call.
This makes the phone un usable as a phone. Is everyone experiencing this?? This is a huge problem.
BTW also the task manager included does not work you can’t select any program to end.

GPS does not work too, it is a big downer.
The thing is e.g. maps initiates GPS, but never finds the exact location. Tried with Runkeeper too, does not work.
Also, I believe AppBrain sync problem is due to AndroidID, so that should be down the pipes for fixing

Anyone else having problems with maps launching at random times?
1/5 times I unlock my stone I have google maps running in the foreground, which not only is a pain to kill every time, it also costs a good deal of power (I do NOT have it as a shortcut on my home screen)

SoundHound and AppBrain are fixed after the android_id is fixed; here are a bit more elaborate instructions:
1. Get RootExplorer from the market and this SQlite editor at http://www.multiupload.com/DM4Q4AQ7TC, install both to a rooted phone
2. in RootExplorer navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db and edit it in SQlite, not text editor
3. When in SQlite, click on “secure” and menu/New record
insert “android_id” for name and “0000000000000000″ (16 zeros); without quotation marks naturally.
4. reboot and you are all set

Does anyone else expierenced problems with exchange active sync connection with this release.
with got mod 2.2 i can’t connect to my exchange server anymore.
using a 2.1 firmware again and it works.

Conflict between Email and Handcent SMS. When I setup exchange email account, it’s required to setup Screen Lock. Soon after that, when I open email account, there have a message to state that Handcent SMS interferes with Screen Lock, and my email is disable.

flashing 2.1 again and use my nandroid image and exchange works like a charm for me too. going back to this 2.2 release no connection.
when trying cm 6 pseudo 2.2 rom exchange works too.
just on this release no connection.
is there something around the 2.2 fixes in got or that fixes some exchange related problems? altoughh i installed those fixes maybe a new sbf flash and 2.2 fix from or would help then.
hope someone else is responding to this and tell me if exchange is working for them.

I did flash the release since that time, my phone is not able to recharge any battery. The battery is fine by itself but the phone seems not. Event off (with the big guage) it unable to recharge the battery. Any one has a clue ? What can cause this ?

It is wonderful! Batterylife is a little bit behind the original firmware, but its still good.
There are just three issues:
- Browser lags really hard when zooming and panning
- Editing the build.prop for video resolution doesn’t affect any change, that’s sad
- WiFi semms to be a little bit buggy, it connects, but often doesn’t transfer any data
Any help is appreciated.

I resolved the bad battery issue for myself. I went into OR and deleted cache, re formatted drive. Then I reflashed the Froyo rom. Set up phone, rebooted, then went into OR and applied fixes. Then went back into phone, rebooted, went into OR and rooted. Then went back into phone rebooted and went back into OR again and applied the GOT theme and mem hack.
Now the phone works great, no problems at all and battery life is just as good as it was with official MOTO 2.1 rom.

I get a double notification with the car dock.
This is the same as the double USB notification issue you fixed with your patch. I have installed the Fixes in your GOT Recovery. The double USB went away, but the car dock shows up twice….

Same as with any other rom. So only with this rom no exchange. Can you add this to bugfixlkist? Can confirm laggy zooming in browser and problems with wlan.

Hey guys!
Concerning that battery issues: I dunno if this will still be the case when Bugfix OR is online but in the meantime Androidhilfe.de found some (interesting) things which do cause the battery bug. Following should be marked RED and BIG and posted somewhere BEFORE one is trying to flash 2.2.1:
- Do the hell NOT use apps like Titanium Backup or similar to restore your app settings of 2.1 ROM or even the apps themselves. (Google Market sync is totally ok if available) The settings of 2.1 ROM are not compatible to 2.2 ROM and there WILL be problems. Install the apps manually and set them up manually. If the settings are all set, Titanium backup can again be used, to restore settings FROM 2.2.1 (!) TO 2.2.1 (!).
- DO NOT use SetCPU widget and facebook widget! Especially SetCPU: Best option is to deinstall it and NOT use it until further notice (overclock via OR and leave it). The frequency / voltage settings in SetCPU are not yet compatible to 2.2.1 and will cause major battery drain. The same accounts to similar apps, such as overclock widget.
- DO NOT use (Auto) Task Killers. They do not help the system in any way! Never! If you MUST use one, use Autokiller. But please use moderate settings (Preset: moderate or optimum)! Actually there is NO need at all to use any Autokiller / Task Killer in 2.2.1!!!
The following points are more or less “standard” and apply not solely to 2.2.1 but also 2.1:
- Settings/Security/GPS -> uncheck
- Settings/Wireless/WLAN/network notification -> uncheck
- (if needed) deactivate syncs if not needed
I DO hope that helps! At least my stone is running > 48 h with the settings above! On 2.2.1!!!

I found the battery increased when I selected remove stock apps from the OR. Left it unplugged over night and I’ll still over 50%
Only down side is it deletes gtalk.

My hp still have the problem of screen suddenly not responding but can turn screen off using the power button and tats all. And sometimes if someone called me, after talking on phone i can’t end the call. No matter wad i press it just no response.

Tethering applications like EasyTether and PdaNet is very unstable for me. Everytime my USB connection will drop within seconds. I cannot figure out what is wrong even after trying to change USB cable. The G.O.T 2.2.1 default USB tethering does not work for me because it seems like I cannot find a driver for Windows RNDIS thing even with Windows Mobile Device installed. Anyone can offer any kind of help?
Not sure if this is G.O.T 2.2.1 or CM6 issue.
